It is essential to understand how this Bluetooth tracker works, both nearby and at a distance: 1. Proximity Search (Nearby Beep): How it works: When the tracker is close to your own smartphone (within Bluetooth range), you can activate an audible alert on the tracker itself through the FindTag app. A small speaker icon lights up in the app to indicate that the tracker is within range. Range: This direct Bluetooth range is usually several dozen metres, depending on the environment (think of walls indoors or dense vegetation outdoors). It is ideal for finding your pet when, for example, it is hiding indoors or in the immediate garden area. 2. Map Search (Network Location): How it works: Is the tracker outside the direct Bluetooth range of your phone? Then the 'Map Find' function activates. The tracker uses the network of other FindTag app users. If someone else who has the FindTag app installed and open comes near your lost tracker, that phone picks up the tracker's signal. This anonymous location data is encrypted and sent, after which you can see the most recent known location of your tracker on the map in your app. Range: This network range is worldwide, depending on the density of FindTag app users. It is not real-time remote tracking, but gives an indication of where the tracker was last detected by another device. The supplier notes that "the location update is not real-time" and that a "fast and reliable network query service cannot be guaranteed." Movement History: The tracker stores up to 3 days of its own movement history. Once the tracker reconnects with your phone (or another phone in the network), you can view this historical location data in the app. You can filter the latest data (1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours, or 1 day) to view the corresponding location data. Installation and Ease of Use: App Installation: Download the FindTag app via the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) or via the QR code in the manual. Sign Up: Register an account with a username and password. Pairing: Tap the search icon in the app to scan all nearby Bluetooth devices. Tap your SmartPet Tracker to connect it to your phone. Turning On/Off: With button: Long press the switch (4 short beeps) to turn on; long press (2 short beeps) to turn off. Without button: Remove the isolation tab to turn on (1 beep). They can also see the tracker's location data.
